Tutor Training

Requirements for becoming a tutor:
Literacy Volunteers tutors are required to have a high school diploma (or its equivalent) as well as a desire to help another individual meet his/her literacy goals. Tutors must complete the required tutor training sessions and be willing to volunteer 2 hours of their time each week in one of the Literacy Volunteers programs. It is hoped that tutors will remain in the program for at least 9-12 months (or more!).

Trainings are offered throughout the year (see specific dates below) and they  are delivered through two methods:

1)   16 Hour Hands-On Training –Volunteers attend 5 sessions of hands-on training that will prepare them to work with adults.  - No Pre-coursework required.

2)  Blended Computer and Hands-On training In this training, volunteers take 6 free courses from Verizon Literacy Network on their computers at their own pace and then attend two hands-on sessions. 3 on-line courses need to be completed prior to the first session.
