Family Literacy

Literacy Volunteers currently offers two Family Literacy Programs:

Eau Claire Family Literacy

and

Northern Region Family Literacy Program

What is Family Literacy?

Family Literacy provides opportunities for families to learn together and build positive attitudes toward education.  Parents have the opportunity to improve their basic skills and/or English competencies.  While they are pursuing their personal and educational goals, their young children participate in their own educational programs.  Parents must agree to participate in parenting classes and parent-child activities.

The four components of Family Literacy services are:

  • Adult Education
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Interactive Literacy Activities
  • Parent Education

In some cases, assistance in accessing the Family Literacy Program is provided by meeting childcare and transportation needs.  Literacy Volunteers typically collaborates with other agencies and organizations to provide comprehensive family literacy programs.
