Open Lab

In the Fall of 2009, LVCV explored the idea of an Open Learning Lab. Armed with the motto, “Literacy Can’t Wait” Tuesday evenings, in our Eau Claire office, were dedicated to allowing students to come in on a drop-in basis and learn. From the 1st night, when 1 student attended to currently averaging 10 students per night, obviously “Literacy Couldn’t Wait”! Students are assessed and matched with curriculum to focus on their immediate and long-term needs. Roaming volunteer tutors and staff work with and guide the students to maximize their learning.

This opening learning concept has now expanded to our Dunn and Chippewa County locations. Staff and/or tutors are available to help students on a drop-in basis.

LVCV has found that the Open Learning Lab provides a time to learn, work on computers, share experiences, develop a group support system and share ideas. These students are given the opportunity to be matched with a tutor or continue to attend the Open Learning Lab.

Due to the success of our Open Learning Lab, the Eau Claire office is now offering a drop-in Technology Learning Lab. The computer lab will be open and staffed during this time, for individuals to learn or increase their computer skills, learn how to use the internet, create an email address, work on resume and/or job search skills, etc.
