Wisconsin Literacy's Celebration of Literacy

       Literacy Volunteers' student Oksana Nakonechna was named the Outstanding English Language Learner of the year. Staff member Jane Rockwell was named as Literacy Advocate of the year - Honorable Mention. Partner Program, Northern Region Family Literacy Program had their student Rita Cordes named as the Outstanding Literacy Learner of the Year. The winners were honored at the Celebration of Literacy in Madison at the Edgewater Hotel on May 8th. To find out more information about the event, go to http://wisconsinliteracy.org.

The First Lady Jessica Doyle Award for Family Literacy 2005 was awarded to the Eau Claire Family Literacy Program!

On May 19th, 2005 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle awarded the Eau Claire program with its award. Staff and partners were present to see the presentation. Family Literacy incorporates parents building their reading, writing, and speaking skills while their children do the same.

Senator Pat Kreitlow has been an enthusiastic supporter of literacy. Pat served as a board member for over 6 years. He served as vice president, chaired the public relations committee and served as emcee for the annual Scrabble Bee fund raiser.
